A fast-acting diaphragm valve opens for 50 to 150 milliseconds, discharging a supersonic pulse of compressed air down a blowpipe nozzle positioned above each filter bag. The blast induces a momentary high-pressure shockwave and reverse air surge down the bag, expanding the flexible fabric violently and dislodging the accumulated outer dust cake.

Why is an air receiver tank required directly adjacent to the baghouse manifold?

During the brief 100 ms pulse duration, instantaneous air demand can peak at hundreds of SCFM. Without a local air receiver tank buffer, friction in long compressed air supply lines causes manifold pressure to collapse, depriving the pulse valve of pressure and resulting in weak, ineffective cleaning.

Why is moisture in compressed air catastrophic for baghouses?

If compressed air contains moisture or oil aerosols from the air compressor, wet air injected into the filter bags combines with dry dust to form sticky, impermeable mud (known as "bag mudding"). Mudded bags cannot be cleaned by pulsing and must be completely removed and replaced.
