Diagnosing Central Plant Low Delta-T Syndrome
Low $Delta T$ syndrome is the single most pervasive energy waste problem in commercial and institutional hydronic chiller plants. When returning water temperature drops below design (e.g. returning at $49^circ ext{F}$ instead of $56^circ ext{F}$), the plant becomes flow-limited before reaching its rated thermal capacity ($Q = 500 cdot ext{GPM} cdot Delta T$).
Primary Root Causes
