A common mistake in manual machining is believing that a threaded hole must have 100% full thread height. Machinists and metallurgists have proven that a bolt in a 70% thread engagement hole retains 95% to 100% of its ultimate tensile strength!
In tensile pull tests, the steel bolt will break in half before stripping the 70% internal threads. Yet, attempting to tap 100% thread height requires nearly 300% more wrench torque, snapping high-speed steel taps off deep inside expensive workpieces!
