Dielectric Flange Insulation Kit Principles
Flange insulation kits (FIKs) electrically isolate pipeline sections from un-protected station piping, compressor stations, and wellheads. An isolating kit consists of a dielectric gasket retainer (G-10 epoxy with spring-energized PTFE seals), full-length Mylar or G-10 bolt insulating sleeves, and dual dielectric washers under steel backup washers.
Acceptance Criteria (NACE SP0286)
Prior to bolting, individual components must exhibit resistance exceeding $100 ext{ M}Omega$. Once assembled and hydrotested, the installed flange pair must maintain a minimum in-situ isolation resistance of $> 10 ext{ k}Omega$ to prevent cathodic protection current drain into well casings or plant grounding grids.
