How does continuous gas lift artificial lift work?

High-pressure lift gas is injected down the casing-tubing annulus and enters the tubing via a downhole gas-lift valve. The gas aerates the liquid column, reducing average fluid density and hydrostatic backpressure so the reservoir can flow.

Why does injecting too much gas decrease oil production?

While injecting gas lightens the liquid column (reducing hydrostatic pressure), it also drastically increases fluid velocity. Beyond the optimum GLR, wall friction increases faster than density decreases, raising bottomhole pressure and choking oil inflow.

What is the difference between formation GOR and injection GLR?

Formation GOR is the natural gas dissolved in reservoir crude that flashes into vapor during production. Injection GLR is the supplementary compressed gas injected through the downhole gas lift mandrel.
