How does a Venturi scrubber capture sub-micron particles?
Water is injected at the converging inlet of the Venturi throat, where extreme gas velocities (180 to 300 ft/s) violently atomize the water into a dense cloud of microscopic droplets. High-velocity inertial impaction forces sub-micron dust particles to collide with and become trapped inside the droplets.
What is Contact Power Theory in scrubber performance?
Semrau’s Contact Power Theory establishes that particulate collection efficiency in a Venturi scrubber is almost entirely a function of total pressure drop (gas contact power), regardless of whether the pressure drop is achieved by higher throat velocity or higher liquid-to-gas ratio.
Why are Venturi scrubbers followed by cyclonic mist eliminators?
After scrubbing in the throat, the gas contains millions of entrained, dust-laden water droplets. A downstream cyclonic separator or chevron mist eliminator spins the gas to separate and drain the slurry droplets before clean gas exits the stack.
