ASME B31G & Modified RSTRENG Criterion

ASME B31G is the statutory regulatory standard for determining the remaining pressure containment capacity of corroded energy pipelines. The Estimated Repair Factor (ERF) is the ratio of actual operating pressure ($MAOP$) to allowable safe pressure ($P'_{safe}$). An ERF greater than $1.0$ mandates either a pressure derating or an engineered composite sleeve / steel repair clamp.

Folias Bulging Factor (M)

Internal pressure bulges the thinner thinned wall outward, amplifying tensile hoop stress. The Folias factor $M$ accounts for this geometric shell curvature stress concentration.
